What is Salma’s Canteen?

It’s for days when you want something delicious to eat, maybe a quick bite to eat on the go or a snack in between but can’t be bothered cooking. It’s for the times you’ve run out of hours to do the shopping and chopping and other prep but still want to rattle the pans at home.

It’s a shop to stop and buy a few ingredients or dishes to supplement your own weekday cooking or add extras without the effort for when you’re hosting or entertaining.

It’s for buying a food gift for a friend.

There are options for the novice in the kitchen who wants to buy a 100% ready-made meal, as well as the confident cook looking for a few shortcuts to supplement their own creations.

It is a place to stop by and have a breakfast before hitting the shops in Rosebery, or a quick lunch with fresh seasonal salads, or soup of the day or warm you up or something more indulgent like the toasties. Or you need a sweet treat and a coffee.

It’s your canteen. It’s the new Salma in your life.

WHO IS SALMA?

The face and name behind Salma’s Canteen is chef and owner Michael Rantissi’s mum, Salma, who is a great feeder and nourisher. Salma brings people together to eat and talk, sending them home piled with leftovers. Everyone who loves food has a Salma in their life. Someone who loves you, looks out for you and shows you affection through food.
